This Bibliography has been produced under the auspices of the History of the University Unit with assistance from 150th anniversary funding. It includes both primary and secondary sources, most notably material from the University of Melbourne Archives and other repositories such as the State Library of Victoria and the National Library of Australia.
Periodicals such as Farrago, which regularly contain articles relating to University administration, are included, but no attempt has been made to index newspapers and journals not specifically devoted to the University of Melbourne. Special efforts have been made to include pictorial material.
The Bibliography aims to provide a broad a coverage as possible of material relating to the history and operations of the University, biographical material relevant to important individuals, and a coverage of principal components of the institutions as well as events and activities. It does not attempt to list the publications or archives of people associated with the University outside their connection with its history and administration, so that, for example, R.D. 'Pansy' Wright's archive relating to his activities as Chancellor are included, but not papers relating to his scientific work.
